PP (Polypropylene) double-layer jars are widely used in cosmetic packaging, but they also have some typical drawbacks, mainly in appearance, structural performance, and user experience:

1. Less premium appearance (“plastic feel”)
PP has relatively low transparency. In double-layer structures, it can look less refined and high-end compared with acrylic (PMMA) or glass. This becomes especially noticeable for premium skincare brands where visual luxury is important.

2. Average scratch resistance
The outer surface is prone to fine scratches. Without special surface treatments (such as spraying, electroplating, or UV coating), the appearance can easily be affected during transportation or retail display.

3. Limited transparency and visual depth
For designs aiming at a “floating effect” or high transparency content display, PP does not perform as well as PETG or acrylic. The overall visual layering and depth effect are relatively weak.

4. Moderate dimensional stability
PP is sensitive to temperature changes and may expand or contract slightly. If mold precision is not well controlled, it may lead to minor deformation or inconsistent fit (e.g., between inner and outer layers).

5. Limited positioning for high-end markets
Many European and American mid-to-high-end brands tend to prefer:

  • Acrylic double-wall jars (brighter and more transparent)

  • Glass inner-jar structures (heavier and more premium)
PP double-layer jars are therefore more commonly positioned in the      mid-range or cost-effective segment.

6. Average barrier properties
PP has weaker oxygen and fragrance barrier performance compared to glass or certain composite materials. It may be less suitable for long-term storage of formulas containing active ingredients.
